COVID finally found my house. My wife thinks she got it at a work event. She started having symptoms Thursday or Friday, but we're both triple vaxxed and it's fucking pollen tree spunk bullshit allergy season here, so we didn't think much about it at first. She started feeling really bad on Friday night, and an initial home test was negative. We both took home tests yesterday; hers was positive, mine was negative, and she has gone for an official test that we're waiting on the results of. She's coughing hard and ran a bad fever last night but seems a little better this morning. So far, all I've had is a little ache in my chest and scratchy throat, which is practically indistinguishable from all the other crap I usually get this time of year. Anyway, because my household has been directly infected, we're both out of work for a week. Fun.
I'm starting to think she's feeling worse than she's trying to let on. Becoming concerned but she says she's breathing fine and doesn't need the ER. Keeping watch.
Wow! So sorry for your family's trials and tribulations with this. Here in Hawaii we were the last state to lift mandatory mask requirements, just two weeks ago at the end of March. Our household is also triple vaxed but now that we can finally stop with the damn masks, it's still worrisome. I've thought I had it a number of times but never had a positive test, although I only tested twice during the way more times I wondered.
At least if you're off work for a week you can hang here more!
Keep us posted and best wishes for a speedy recovery for you both my friend!

Update: wife's official PCR test came back positive today. She got a bunch of scrips from her doctor today. She has lost taste and smell and her ears are jammed with fluid, but her lungs seem to be clearing up.
I have no symptoms beyond some itchy eyes and sinus that I'm sure are just allergies; everything here has a yellow haze over it from pollen. I'm hoping that I've dodged it.
It's not cheap but if you're near larger population centers these protocols have worked.
Up here in FarNorCal we have access to all of these (not in 1 place) in Redding.
Wife and I are both back to work. Turned out that some of my wife's co-workers got sick too, so that's almost certainly where she got it. I've had no symptoms or positive tests. I'd wager her pre-existing conditions played a role in her breakthrough case. But anyway, the saga is over for now.
I'd bet that COVID will end up being like the flu, with an annual shot tailored to what they think will be the popular strains this year. It might even be a combo shot, who knows.
Just a few days after getting back to work, my wife got fired. Due to the timing, we suspect it was retaliation for getting COVID and not being at work. "How DARE you use the sick time we gave you?" kind of thing. My wife actually considers it a positive move, because she had a bad boss and was subject to a lot of ageism and tight-assed business bullshit. She got 30 days severance, so she's treating it as an unplanned vacation; she has connections in her field and could have another job right now if she wanted, but we're fine money wise so no hurry.
Wow. Why 'jobs' were never my thing. Really prefer being my own boss. Wishing you guys the best! Live your passion and the money will follow!

I'm working on nailing down my "retired" part time gig.
Should be done with real work by the end of the year.
Revisiting this: I just got the latest COVID booster, the new bivalent one that's supposed to be more effective against variants. Arm is sore but no other effects so far. My wife is back to work; she got hired back to one of her previous employers as a manager with a 20% raise over the job she got fired from. Karma at work for sure.
I have the 2 J&J's on board. I'm good to go.
My 18 year old is still a pureblood.
