After getting yet another stupid 24 hour auto-ban for a meme that others have posted countless times, I'm getting sick and fucking tired of Facebook's algorithm bullshit. What other platforms are there as alternatives? The main reason I use Facebook is to stay in touch with my family, and I have no doubt they'd join me on whatever platform I turned them on to.

Yes, they continue to get worse and worse and their computer algorithms flag and ban people for no logical reason. Our fears of computers taking over gets worse and worse everywhere - not just Facebook. The same problem exists with Paypal, Venmo, eBay, the IRS and others. They don't have the manpower so they set up systems that don't comprehend logic or exceptions or common sense.

I trimmed my friend list on FB down from about 200 people to 33.  I only follow spiritual pages and pages about animals.  I don’t post anything.  I stay far away from anything remotely controversial on there.  And I’m having a good time with it, finally after being on it for 13 years now.  Well when FB started it was enjoyable and harmless but not now unless you closely guard your usage of it.  Occasionally they sneak shit into my newsfeed that I don’t like but I click “show me less of this” or ignore page and that helps.

I only have 72 friends on FB, at least a quarter of which are family members. That's really the biggest reason I haven't discarded it, because my family is spread across the country and it helps us keep in touch.

I am on Reddit now, which is less social and more like a gigantic topical bulletin board and I have more choice about what shows up in my feed. So that's a step in the right direction, anyway.
